It looks like the woes for Ola Electric are never-ending! Just a couple of days after the news of an Ola S1 Pro catching fire during the daylight in Pune while being parked, another video of the electric scooter has gone viral on a social media platform. In a rather absurd incident, the scooter is operating in reverse mode and is just refusing to stop at all.
While the origins of the video aren’t clear yet, the video showcases an Ola S1 Pro lying down on the floor sideways. In the video, the rear wheel of the electric scooter, where the power produced from the electric motor is transferred, is operating in reverse at a very fast speed. The rear wheel continues to spin rapidly, with its turn signals blinking at the same time.
This strange issue that has popped in the Ola S1 Pro is not something new, as a similar incident happened a couple of months ago in which an S1 pro went into reverse at a speedometer-indicated speed of 102 kmph when the rider twisted the throttle.
Why did this happen?
The Ola S1 Pro features a reverse mode, which if engaged, can make the scooter go in reverse. However, in these reported incidents, the scooter went into reverse without the mode being engaged. It seems like a clear case of a software glitch. Many of the controls and features of Ola S1 Pro are operated via in-built software, which can be updated from time to time, just like a smartphone.
While the features of a vehicle controlled by software might look like a fancy idea, it has its negative consequences, and the Ola S1 Pro abruptly going into reverse mode at a high speed on its own is a prime example of it. In the previous incident, the owner had even tagged Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola Electric, in a tweet to address this issue. The scooter owner was even visited by a technical team from Bengaluru to look into the matter.
The Ola S1 Pro is the first-ever all-electric product from Ola in the electric mobility segment. Currently priced at Rs 1.30 lakh, the S1 Pro features a 3.97 kWh battery, which claims a maximum range of 181 km and takes 6 hours and 30 minutes for a full charge using a portable 750W charger provided with the scooter. It also has an 8.5 kW electric motor, which produces 58 Nm of peak torque output and can touch a top speed of 115 kmph in Hyper mode.
